At ten years of age in 2000, Optimum is still going strong.  He is still sound on his feet and legs and is still naturally breeding 20+ females every year.    In addition, new carcass EPDs show him to be in the top 1% of the breed for ribeye muscle and low backfat, which means he should sire some of the highest yielding offspring of any bull in the breed.  His daughters are beautiful and easy doing.  One of his daughters, WNH Ms Optima 9401, is generally acclaimed as currently the best cow in the breed.  Her progeny have achieved unbelievable success.

Optimum's semen is still in strong demand all over the world.  We have not been able to meet the export demand for his semen in recent years.  Although he breeds well naturally, he will not mount dummy cows used in semen collection, and it has become difficult to collect semen on him.  Our semen inventory is now just over 100 straws.  He has numerous calves in Canada, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay and has been one of the heaviest used bulls in Australia during the last six years.   He has been a very popular bull among Braford breeders, and many Brahman cows have been flushed to Optimum.

In the 1999-2000 Show Season, three of the four National Grand Champions in Canada and the United States were all progeny or grand progeny of MSU Optimum Z03.
