Maximum steers were the top performing steers on the 1999 Genetic Outreach Program test.  His steers were in the top 1/3 of 30 groups of steers for every important measurement, and were #1 in net return, far outdistancing all other groups of steers in this most important category.

1. Judge Alex Dees made some interesting and perceptive comments about Maximum at the WWF: He said, "The bull calf I picked for Reserve Champion represents where we are going in the future." Maximum is a 6 1/2 frame, extremely thick, round-muscled bull with enormous volume and capacity. His sire was born in 1972, and his paternal grandam was born in 1958. Her grandparents were born in the 1940s. Maximum combines the blocky pattern of the 40s-70s era with the performance and frame of the 1990s.
2. Maximum is right on for Certified Hereford Beef. He is sired by 5D&S MAX 223 (see our July, 1994 ad in the PHW). Max was a Gold Seal Sire, ranking at the top of the breed for carcass traits, including cutability, lean weight per day of age and marbling. The last time marbling EPDs were calculated, MAX was the 3rd highest PH bull for marbling.
3. Maximum and his dam were Cow/calf Champion at the 1996 Oregon State Fair Regional Hereford Show (polled and horned). Maximum's dam was Yearling Champion Horned Heifer at the 1995 WWF. Maximum's maternal grandam is 17 years old, and she was also sired by a Gold Seal Sire that excelled in marbling and other carcass traits.
