9833 and 9834 are very special calves.  They are 8 year milestones in the first phase of our line breeding plan.  While these calves that were born in the fall of 1998 are very promising,  we are continuing to line breed Optimum in our attempt to produce the best linebred calves we can produce.  There is not a mediocre animal in the pedigree of these two calves.  These linebred calves will be used both for the purpose of line crossing with other other lines of cattle and for the purpose of crossing with our linebred Feltons 517 calves.

Hopefully, we have maximized and concentrated the strengths of MSU Optimum Z03 in these calves.  Correspondingly, we also hope that we have minimized or overcome his flaws and weaknesses.  These calves should produce more consistent excellence than any single animal in their pedigree.

When these calves or others developed later are crossed with linebred Feltons 517 calves, we expect them to produce the strongest cross of linebred calves that has ever done in the Hereford breed.  It will take until 2005-2008 before the results of this breeding plan will be fully known.  Breeding consistently excellent cattle is a long term proposition.  Occasionally one stumbles into producing a great bull, but if that bull is not produced by consistent and concentrated genetics, the bull will not breed his greatness on to future generations with any consistency.  Our vision is to ultimately achieve complete and consistent excellence.
